From May 20 to 24, 2026, a research team from the International Higher School of Medicine conducted a scientific medico-humanitarian expedition to the Alai and Chong-Alai districts of the Osh Region of the Kyrgyz Republic. The expedition was organized within the framework of Task No. 3 of the Strategic Action Plan of the Scientific and Analytical Department and the research program of the International Higher School of Medicine entitled: “Comprehensive Clinical and Pathophysiological Characterization of the Health Status of Pamiri Kyrgyz during the Re-adaptation Period.”
The expedition was carried out under the leadership of Vice-Rector for Scientific and State Language Policy, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Orozali Uzakov. The responsible executor was Argen Alymkulov, PhD in Medicine, Head of the Department of Research Management. The research team also included Akmaral Uspeeva, physician-laboratory specialist of the Human Genetics Laboratory; Kerimaly K. Mairamkan, Assistant at the Department of Surgical Diseases; and Bakhtiyar Absatarov, an IHSM postgraduate student, who served as a pediatrician.
The primary objective of the fieldwork was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the health status of the Afghan Pamiri migrants who arrived in the Kyrgyz Republic under the state resettlement program, as well as to evaluate the specific features of their re-adaptation to new climatic, geographical, social, and domestic living conditions. In parallel, the expedition aimed to provide practical medical assistance to the population of high-altitude areas and to collect scientific material for further analysis within the framework of IHSM research.
During the expedition, 124 resettled individuals and 312 residents of the settlements of Taldy-Suu, Sary-Mogol, and Daroot-Korgon were examined. The assessments were comprehensive and included the collection of anamnesis, clinical evaluation of health status, identification of complaints, initial consultations, and the collection of biological samples for laboratory and genetic investigations.
Particular attention was given to blood sample collection for subsequent advanced analysis aimed at studying indicators of general health status, the functioning of the hematopoietic, metabolic, and immune systems, as well as the specific features of adaptation processes among the resettled individuals. The materials obtained are of high scientific value and will serve as the basis for further comparative studies and the preparation of scientific publications.
In addition to the research component, the expedition members carried out consultative and preventive work among the local population. Residents were provided with recommendations on health maintenance, balanced nutrition, adherence to sanitation and hygiene standards, and timely access to medical care in the presence of warning symptoms. Thus, the expedition acquired a distinctly medico-humanitarian character.
The conduct of the expedition under conditions of high altitude, remoteness of settlements, and limited access to specialized medical care confirmed the importance of systematic scientific and practical work in these regions. Cooperation with local self-government bodies and healthcare workers ensured the organized and effective implementation of all planned activities.
Following the expedition, the collected data will be used for further scientific analysis, the preparation of publications, analytical materials, and practical recommendations aimed at improving medical support for resettled populations and residents of high-altitude territories. The conducted work confirmed the high relevance of studying the clinical and physiological features of human adaptation and re-adaptation in high-altitude conditions.
