Celebration of Nooruz at the Issyk-Kul regional campus of the IHSM

“Nooruz” is one of the most important holidays in Kyrgyzstan, which translates literally as “new day” and is celebrated by the International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM) every year. Nooruz is a holiday that unites not only the departments and students of the IHSM, but also the people of Kyrgyzstan into a large, friendly circle.

From March 21st, the days begin to lengthen and the nights shorten. This period is considered to be the new year, the beginning of the season of growth and prosperity.

At IHSM, Nooruz is a public holiday that is celebrated with a lot of attention and festivities. Tables are filled with all kinds of delicious traditional Kyrgyz dishes. The main symbol of Nooruz is the traditional dish sumolok, which is believed to give people special vitality and energy. The holiday is celebrated with an open-air festival including traditional folk dances, songs, theatrical performances and Kyrgyz traditions.
