IHSM Hosts Delegation from the DAAD Regional Office in Central Asia

On January 30, 2026, the International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM) welcomed a delegation from the DAAD Regional Office in Central Asia (Bishkek) for an official visit aimed at strengthening academic cooperation and expanding opportunities for international mobility, research, and education.

The DAAD delegation was represented by Dr. Gisela Zimmermann, Director of the DAAD Regional Office in Central Asia, and Ms. Meerim Duishaeva, Contact Person for Kyrgyzstan. The meeting took place at the IHSM Conference Hall and brought together IHSM leadership and key academic staff.

The IHSM delegation was led by Professor Stalbek M. Akhunbaev, D.Sc. (Medicine), Rector of IHSM. In his welcome speech, Professor Akhunbaev emphasized the strategic importance of international academic partnerships and reaffirmed IHSM’s commitment to expanding cooperation with German universities. Dr. Gisela Zimmermann expressed appreciation for the productive collaboration and highlighted DAAD’s continued support for academic mobility, institutional partnerships, and research development in the region.

During the strategic discussion session, the parties focused on priority areas of cooperation, including:

  • support for academic and professional mobility through language training, exchanges, internships, and guest lectures under DAAD programs;
  • methodological and advisory support for project development, proposal writing, and research capacity building;
  • strengthening institutional partnerships with German universities, including joint programs, research collaboration, and publication support;
  • development of Transnational Education (TNE) initiatives, including a potential double-degree Master’s program in Healthcare Management in cooperation with Zwickau University and etc.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further deepen IHSM–DAAD cooperation and to develop a long-term cooperation roadmap for the next 3–5 years. Both sides emphasized the importance of sustainable partnerships that enhance academic quality, international visibility, and research excellence, opening new opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers.
