Seminar «Scientific Strategy: The Relationship Between Publications in Scopus and Positions in the QS Ranking»

On June 2, 2025, representatives of the International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM) participated in a seminar titled «Scientific Strategy: The Relationship Between Publications in Scopus and Positions in the QS Ranking». The event was organized by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic in collaboration with the GIZ Kyrgyzstan project.

The IHSM was represented by Vice-Rector for Academic and Clinical Affairs Asel А. Usenova and Dean of Postgraduate Studies Aliia E. Bazhanova.

The seminar trainer and facilitator was Urmat Tynaliev, Ph.D. (USA), an expert from the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic specializing in Scopus and QS rankings.

The main goal of the seminar was to develop practical skills in writing and formatting scientific publications for journals indexed in the international Scopus database, as well as to deepen understanding of the methodology behind the QS World University Rankings.

As part of the program, participants became acquainted with:

• the key criteria for university evaluation in the QS system;
• the structure and principles of writing a scientific article in the (A)IMRAD format;
• the rules for preparing and submitting manuscripts, the peer review process, and formatting according to international standards (APA, Chicago, etc.);
• strategies to increase the visibility of scientific works and their impact on the academic reputation of institutions.

The seminar served as an effective platform for exchanging experience and gaining up-to-date knowledge that contributes to the development of research activities and the advancement of universities of the Kyrgyz Republic on the international scientific stage.
