The International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM) is proud to share the achievements of its graduate Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad, a member of the Class of 2015, who is currently working at the Graduate School of Medicine, Juntendo University, Tokyo, Japan 🇯🇵, where he holds the position of Associate Professor.

Dr. Ahmad has recently received a prestigious research grant from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) for his project titled “Type 5 Diabetes Mellitus (T5DM) in South Asia: Comparative Epidemiology, Clinical Signatures, and Cost-Efficient Public Health Tools for Early Detection.”

Type 5 Diabetes Mellitus (T5DM) is a newly recognized form of diabetes, recently acknowledged by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) as a distinct type within the diabetes family. The condition represents a critical yet historically overlooked disease, particularly affecting populations in low- and middle-income regions.

As the Principal Investigator of the project, Dr. Ahmad aims to generate scientific evidence that will help address long-standing gaps in the recognition, diagnosis, and early intervention of T5DM. The research focuses on improving understanding of the disease in South Asia and developing cost-efficient public health tools that can support earlier detection and better healthcare responses.

IHSM proudly congratulates Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad on this significant achievement and wishes him continued success in advancing medical research and global health.
