On May 21, 2025, the opening ceremony of the 12th International Symposium on Turkic World Studies took place at Ömer Halisdemir University in the Republic of Türkiye. The symposium, held under the theme “Cooperation in the Field of Higher Education among Turkic States,” was jointly organized with the Eurasian University of Baku and the Abai Kazakh National Women’s Pedagogical University.
The event was held at the Congress and Cultural Center of Şehit Ömer Halisdemir University and was attended by notable figures including the university's Rector, Professor Dr. Hasan Uslu; Mayor of Niğde, Emrah Özdemir; Rector of the Eurasian University of Baku, Professor Shyavush Kasimov; Rector of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Professor Gyulmira Kanay; Rector of Komrat State University, Professor Dr. Sergey Zaharia; Vice President of TÜBİTAK TEYDEB, Dr. Hasan Selçuk Selek; as well as many researchers, lecturers, academic and administrative staff, and students.
The audience enjoyed a vibrant opening program, which featured the cultural festival “Tamyrımız – Bir Türk,” followed by a series of panel discussions.
Since its inception in 2014, the symposium has become a prominent annual gathering, bringing together approximately 277 scholars and researchers this year from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Iran, and Moldova.
Representing the International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM), Rima Zh. Zaiyrkulova, Head of the Department of State Language and Language Policy, delivered a presentation titled “Issues of Comparative Analysis of the Epic ‘Manas’ and the Epic ‘Korkut Ata’.”
This year’s symposium once again served as a dynamic platform for academic dialogue and cultural exchange, strengthening ties among scholars of the Turkic world and promoting a shared understanding of history, language, literature, and societal issues. It continues to serve as a bridge between science and culture by fostering unity in language, thought, and tradition.
In addition to academic discussions, a cooperation agreement was signed during the event. Branded products of IHSM were also presented to Professor Dr. Hasan Uslu, Rector of Ömer Halisdemir University and Chairperson of the Symposium; Dr. Hikmet Korash, Head of the Department of Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; and Associate Professor Meder Saliev of the same department and faculty.
