First Joint Coordination Committee Meeting of the SATREPS Project

The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting of the Satellite Data and Regional Air Pollution Assessment System (SATREPS) Project Team was held at Osh State University, ahead of the scheduled session on June 12, 2025. The meeting marked a significant step in launching the five-year collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing air pollution monitoring and assessment in Kyrgyzstan.

The Japanese delegation included Professor Nobutoshi Nawa of Tokyo Medical and Dental University, along with Professors Onishi and Nishimura from the International University of Japan. The project, funded with a budget of $5 million, will support the establishment of an Air Pollution Research Center at Osh State University, as well as additional research units across Osh city.

The SATREPS project aims to improve air pollution monitoring in Kyrgyzstan and promote data visualization tools to raise public awareness. It will also generate actionable recommendations for the public and develop evidence-based policy advice for government agencies.

Research will be jointly conducted by scientists from Osh State University and the International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM), in collaboration with representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic and other governmental institutions.

Representing IHSM at the meeting were faculty members of the Department of Public Health:

  • Marina K. Duishenkulova, M.D., Lecturer

This event represents a major milestone in strengthening international scientific cooperation and advancing the goals of the SATREPS initiative in Kyrgyzstan.
