The International Higher School of Medicine (IHSM) had the honour of hosting Dr. Liviu Vedrasco on September 18,2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to the Kyrgyz Republic, along with a distinguished WHO delegation. The visit marked an important milestone in advancing the collaboration between IHSM and WHO, aimed at enhancing medical education and fostering global health standards.
The delegation included Dr. Janara Bekenova, WHO Technical Officer for Immunization, Dr. Amanda Shriwise, Adviser on Health Policy, and Almaz K. Jumaliev, WHO Communications Officer for Kyrgyzstan. Together with IHSM leaders, the delegation engaged in discussions focused on future opportunities for collaboration, knowledge-sharing in medical education, and strengthening professional ties.
The event opened with welcoming speeches by IHSM Rector Dr. Stalbek M. Akhunbaev and WHO Representative Dr. Liviu Vedrasco, both of whom emphasized the significance of the partnership. This was followed by a short video presentation highlighting IHSM’s achievements and contributions to medical education in the region.
Dr. Kenesh O. Dzhusupov - Head of the Department, Ph.D.(Medicine), Assoc. Professor, a key faculty member at IHSM, delivered an insightful presentation on the ongoing research cooperation between IHSM and WHO, further highlighting the importance of joint efforts in addressing global health challenges.
As part of the visit, the WHO delegation was given a tour of the IHSM Medical Clinic “VEDANTA” and the Clinical Simulation Center, both of which exemplify the institution’s commitment to providing students with high-quality, practical medical training.
This visit reinforces IHSM’s commitment to building sustainable partnerships with international health organizations and advancing global medical education standards. Through this strengthened collaboration with WHO, IHSM continues to elevate the quality of its training programs and research initiatives for the benefit of both students and the wider community.
