The department collaborates with other departments within ISM and foreign universities. It participates in the scientific society of epidemiologists, microbiologists and parasitologists. Being a leading institute of public health research, it takes part in dissertations review and their discussion.
The department has established good research and educational connections with European, Central Asian and US universities. In 2012-2015, the department initiated and successfully implemented the joint educational project on EACEA TEMPUS program called “Central Asian Network in Education, Research and Innovation in Environmental Health” with 13 partners from Italy, Estonia, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan (http://canerieh.ut.ee). The project resulted in the development and implementation of PhD programs in Central Asian universities, including the ISM; the establishment of Centers for Education, Research and Innovation in Environmental Health at Central Asian universities; increasing academic and student mobility and good collaboration between project partners. In 2016, this project consortium received another EACEA grant on Erasmus Plus program to continue the project on the development of Master programs and introducing blended learning approach to teaching and learning process at Central Asian universities.
The department is in close partnership with the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU) with the agreement signed on cooperation in research and pedagogics. The department staff regularly visit the KazNMU to participate in conferences and different events (i.e., Students’ Olympiads). Dr. Kenesh Dzhusupov is a visiting professor of the KazNMU., The department along with KazNMU has completed several research projects on Rural Health and Occupational Health and applied for a MES RK Planning Grant titled “Central Asian Institute for Environmental&Occupational Health” in collaboration with Medical Central University of Nebraska (Omaha, USA).
In 2017, a grant for academic mobility was received by Dr. Kenesh Dzhusupov on the basis of the agreement between the ISM Department of Public Health and Public Health Department of the University of Tartu.
