CHILDHOOD DISEASES: INTRODUCTION TO PEDIATRICS
Caring for and treating a child in case of illness is significantly different from the approaches used in medicine for adults. The child is characterized by anatomical, physiological, morphological, emotional and immunological immaturity, which determines the nature of the course and outcome of the disease. The child’s body is constantly growing and developing, and as the child’s growing up his/her reaction to environmental conditions, his nutritional needs, the ability to resist infections and tolerate various diseases change significantly.
Consequently, a correct assessment of the clinical and laboratory research findings as to the child and an understanding of the uniqueness of the pathology of children are possible only if there is a substantial knowledge of the age-related anatomical and physiological characteristics of the growing child's body. For the proper organization of the regimen of the day, care and feeding, and therefore for the prevention of diseases, it is necessary to know the laws of the physical, neuro-psychic development of children. Clinical examination of children requires a certain medical technique, the study of which is included in the course of propaedeutics of childhood diseases.
